Classification and Application of Hard Alloy Punches

Author:

As we all know, cemented carbide has a wide range of applications in the industrial field. Today, we will talk about cemented carbide punches, which are one type of it. Cemented carbide punches, also known as cemented carbide pins, are precision mold components made from finely ground cemented carbide rods, characterized by high precision, high hardness, and good bending strength. Typically, we use cemented carbide punches, die buttons, and bushings together in the stamping of iron towers. What classifications do cemented carbide punches have? Where else are they applied?

As an important connector component in molds, the quality of punches affects the normal operation of the mold. During operation, cemented carbide punches play important roles in enhancing the strength of ejector pins and preventing deformation and bending of ejector pins. According to materials, shapes, and uses, there are SKD, SKH, ASP punches, guiding punches, ejecting punches, tooth punches, testing heads, hexagonal punches, oval pins, forming punches, fan-shaped punches, special-shaped punches, high-speed steel punches, and high-quality cemented carbide punches. Among them, high-quality cemented carbide punches are also known as tungsten carbide punches.

During the processing process, the requirements for punches are also quite high because when the punch undergoes plastic deformation in the mold cavity, there will be severe friction with the cavity surface. If the punch is not wear-resistant, production work will be difficult to carry out. Therefore, wear resistance is very important for punches. Generally speaking, the higher the hardness of the punch, the smaller its wear amount and the better its wear resistance. In addition to this, the wear resistance of the punch is closely related to the morphology, size, type, and quantity of carbides in the material.

In our processing production process, according to different requirements of our orders, the shapes of cemented carbide punches we use also vary and batch processing holes. For example, computer cases have cold holes while many electrical appliances, milling machines, and drilling machines can only process round holes. During punching operations, hundreds of holes can be processed simultaneously. When working, the distance between the punch and the mold is very close to prevent the punch from sticking in the die; this gap also depends on the thickness of the material—thicker materials require larger gaps. Additionally, this gap also depends on the hardness of our workpiece.
